Aberdonians experienced a mix of rain and snow showers over night, but can expect to see lower temperatures tonight.
Most of the snow that mixed in with rain showers Wednesday night melted by the time it reached the ground, the National Weather Service reported.
"I don't know of any places that got accumulation that stayed on the ground," said Mike Connelly, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.
In Aberdeen, a trace of snow was observed between 1 and 3 a.m. this morning, but Connelly said nothing was technically reported.
The cold front that came down from Canada and through North Dakota has completed its pass through South Dakota, but leftover moisture from the system was what caused the precipitation experienced Wednesday night and early this morning.
The overnight low was 39 degrees. Winds helped keep the precipitation a rain and snow mix.
According to the National Weather Services' wind advisory, gusty winds will continue today in eastern South Dakota at speeds of 25-35 mph, with possible gusts of up to 45 mph. The winds will dial down this evening, Connelly said.
That will bring lower temperatures, with the forecasted low tonight being in the low 20s.
"Once the winds die down and the cold high pressure system moves in, this thing is going to set up right over top of us going into Saturday," Connelly said.
